The trend of low carbohydrate, also referred to as low carb diet, started in the 1970s when the benefits of a low carb diet were showcased by Dr. Robert Atkins. The type of low carb diet varies with the particular program an individual is following along with and how comfortable he is with the program. One thing that is common in all low carb diets is that all of them require consumption of around 50-150g of carbohydrates daily. 

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 1

  • Breakfast: Peanut butter flax cereal, hot; ¼ cup of either fresh or frozen blueberries mixed with cereal.

  • Lunch: Salad made by mixing 4 cups of chopped romaine, ½ avocados and 4 oz. cooked chicken meat with a dressing of vinaigrette such as sweet and sour lime dressing.

  • Dinner: 5 oz. steak, either pan fried or grilled, green beans 1 cup, cooked according to your choice and 1 cup mushroom and peppers mixed with wine and herbs.

  • Snack: ¼ cup whole almonds.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 2

  • Breakfast: a 3-square sausage, spinach Frittata and coffee mixed with 2 tbsp. heavy cream.

  • Lunch: ½ cup simple egg salad, 4 romaine lettuce leaves and 2 slices cooked bacon.

  • Dinner: 6 oz. rotisserie chicken, ¾ cup easy cauliflower gratin, 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce and 2 tbsp. caesar salad dressing (sugar free).

  • Snack: ½ avocado and 24 raw almonds.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 3

  • Breakfast: 1 cup yogurt with cultures, ½ cup fresh or frozen raspberries and 3 tsp. sliced almonds.

  • Lunch: Turkey sandwich prepared using 1 serving of low carb bread, 3 oz. turkey, 1 tsp. mayonnaise, 1 large lettuce leaf and ¼ cup alfalfa sprouts, 8 spears cooked asparagus marinated in Italian dressing (sugar free).

  • Dinner: Black soy beans, creamy southwest chicken and refried beans and salad greens mixed with 1 cup low carb dressing.

  • Snack & Dessert: 1 large celery stalk and 2 tbsp. peanut butter.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 4

  • Breakfast: 2-3 cooked eggs, 2 slices Canadian bacon, 2 medium asparagus spears, 1 cup strawberries, either fresh or frozen.

  • Lunch: 2 cups low carb cole slaw mixed with 1 cup cooked chicken, 1/3 cup chopped apple and ¼ cup chopped pecans.

  • Dinner: 4 oz. lean beef, 1 cup stir fried mushrooms and 3 cups spinach salad mixed with olive oil.

  • Snack & Dessert: ½ cup strained yoghurt and 1-½ tbsp. flaxseed meal.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 5

  • Breakfast: 2 cream cheese pancakes, 2 pieces cooked bacon and 2 tbsp. coffee mixed with heavy cream.

  • Lunch: One cooked and sliced Italian sausage and ¾ cup cauliflower gratin.

  • Dinner: 1- ½ cups chili spaghetti squash casserole, 2 cups baby spinach raw and 1 tbsp. ranch dressing.

  • Snack & Dessert: 1 cup bone broth and 2 squares Lindt 90% chocolate.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 6

  • Breakfast: ½ cup high fiber and low carb meal, 1/3 cup milk, 1/8 medium cantaloupe and 1 oz. almonds.

  • Lunch: 4 cups salad made with salad greens, half sliced avocado, 2 tbsp. sunflower seeds and 2 tbsp. sugar free Italian dressing. 

  • Dinner: Vegetables with basil chicken. 

  • Snack & Dessert: Swiss and ham roll made by 1 oz. sliced ham and 1 oz. sliced cheese and sugar free mustard.

Low Carb Diet Menu—Day 7

  • Breakfast: 2 cream cheese pancakes, 2 pieces cooked bacon and 2 tbsp. coffee mixed with heavy cream.

  • Lunch: ½ cup anti pasta salad, 4 Feta Meatballs and Sundried tomato.

  • Dinner: 1 cup Cuban pot roast, 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce, 1 tbsp. sour cream, 1 tbsp. chopped cilantro and ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese.

  • Snack & Dessert: 5 sticks celery along with 2 tbsp. almond butter and 2 squares Lindt 90% chocolate.
