Any time a man notices something abnormal on their genitalia, they are naturally concerned. If you have seen pimple like bumps on testicles or penis, you are not alone. Statistics tell us that 80% of men will experience white bumps on penile shaft and testicles at some point in their life. Although it is more common amongst teens, older men are not immune to developing pimples on their penis. So what causes those pesky pimples like bumps on testicles or penis?

Are Pimples Around Penis Dangerous?

Many types of pimples on your penis or testicles are normal and harmless though some can be a sign of trouble. Pearly penile papules, which become visible when the foreskin of the penis is pushed back, resemble pimples around penis but are not. They’re actually little glands and you should not pick or squeeze at them. Not all men have visual pearly penile papules, but approximately 10% of men will be able to see them. These are no cause for concern.

Why Are There Pimples on My Penis and Testicles?

1. Folliculitis

Folliculitis is a common occurrence. It will appear as a pimple like bump on testicles or penis and is usually caused by an ingrown hair. It looks like a whitehead and often itches. If it becomes infected, it may swell and turn red around the affected area. If that happens, it can become quite uncomfortable. Try applying warm compresses to the area for 15 minutes several times a day. If this doesn’t work, you may need to consult your doctor and get some antibiotics.

2. Sebaceous Cysts

Another common type of growth on the scrotal skin is sebaceous cysts. Everyone who grows hair has sebaceous glands. These glands produce a kind of oil known as sebum that is meant to keep skin soft around the hair follicles. If one of these glands gets blocked, a sebaceous cyst may form. Normally painless, it may become irritated by friction from tight clothing or excessive scratching. You may find relief by keeping the area clean and dry and by avoiding clothes that irritate because they are tight or rough.

There is the possibility that a cyst may become infected. If this is the case and the cyst becomes painful and inflamed, make an appointment with your family doctor. The cyst may need drained and a course of antibiotics may be necessary to eliminate the infection.

3. Other Causes

Other causes of white bumps on the penile shaft or testicles are actual pimples which often occur in teens, genital warts or herpes, or plain old jock itch. Pimples on penis and testicles can also be a rash caused by a yeast infection, often resembles flaky, pink pinpoints, and itches intensely.
